The Petroleum Museum’s Brown Bag Lunch and Lectures give our community the chance to visit with authors, scientists, artists, and historians who recount the petroleum industry’s beginning, present, and future, along with topics of local and historical interest. These lectures are sponsored by Norma J. McGrew & Hahl Proctor Charitable Trust, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee. Admission is always free. Drinks and dessert are provided.
November 12th – Speaker: Jessica Lee Hamlin – Revealing an Ancient West Texas Library
Did you know that just 3 hours from Midland is some of the most complex and best understood rock art in the world? The murals of the Lower Pecos Canyonlands are ancient, some over 5,500 years old! They depict the myths and beliefs of the Archaic people of Texas. Unbelievably, we can read them! As the executive director, Jessica Lee Hamlin leads the administration and development efforts of the Shumla Archaeological Center. With a B.A. in Archaeology from Texas A&M University, Jessica studied under Dr. Carolyn Boyd and wrote an undergraduate thesis on the Rock Art of the Lower Pecos. Join us as Jessica Lee Hamlin shares the unique secrets Shumla Archaeological Center is revealing about the distant past of West Texas.
